Santa Clara County opts against free swine flu vaccines for all school children

Even though state health officials are encouraging California counties to offer free swine flu vaccinations to every student in school, Santa Clara County says it simply doesn’t have the staff to handle a program that vast.

And that could mean parents here will be stuck with co-pays or other fees to protect their children from the pandemic expected to hit hard this fall. vaccine

Swine flu vaccine plans are up in the air

Even though school resumes across Texas this week, plans to dole out the H1N1 vaccine to guard against inevitable back-to-school swine flu outbreaks continue to be hammered out.

Swine flu vaccine trial under way

The UK’s first swine flu vaccine trial is under way in Leicester.

Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) has enrolled 175 people for the tests, which involves giving two doses of the vaccine, then checking immunity levels.

U.S. Adults Uninformed About Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

BETHESDA, MD 22 July 2009—A survey conducted this year has found that many adults, and younger adults in particular, are unaware of the need to protect themselves from vaccine-preventable diseases, a discovery that is alarming infectious disease specialists.


“Adults are complacent about vaccine-preventable diseases and perhaps not as knowledgeable as we had hoped they would be,” said William Shaffner, president-elect of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), which sponsored the survey. Read more…
