“This new agreement means that not one pharmacy worker will lose her or his job,” Cinnamon Amenes, an SEIU worker Kaiser’s Vallejo medical center who served on the SEIU-UHW bargaining team, said in SEIU’s Sept. 29 statement. Kaiser, meanwhile, explained late Tuesday that it had agreed to the deal, which still requires ratification by union members, to gain more flexibility in how it assigns jobs and shifts to the affected Northern California pharmacy workers.
The Service Employees International Union’s Oakland-based United Healthcare Workers West unit said Tuesday it has reached a compromise agreement with Kaiser Permanente that will preserve 150 pharmacy jobs in Northern California that had been targeted for layoffs.
