AACP Student Community Engaged Service Award will be awarded to four outstanding student-led community engagement programs delivering consumer education about medication use. These programs have been proven to expand access to affordable healthcare and dramatically improve the public’s health.

Teams from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, University of California, San Francisco, Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center will each receive the national award, sponsored by Teva Pharmaceuticals, at the 2012 AACP Annual Meeting. Read more…

KLE University’s College of Pharmacy, Belgaum had chalked out a plan to create an awareness about the role of a pharmacist as a healthcare professional.    This was in accordance with this year’s National Pharmacy Week theme  “Pharmacist — a healthcare professional”  which was observed between Nov 21 to 26, 2011.

During the week-long celebrations, the  Indian Pharmaceutical Association local branch Belgaum conducted a 2-km rally.   The rally was inaugurated by Prof. Chandrakant Kokate, Vice Chancellor, KLE University, Belgaum along with dignitaries including  Deputy Drug Controller, Drug Inspector, Belgaum district, Prof, F V Manvi, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, KLE University, Prof, A D Taranalli, Principal, KLEU’s College of Pharmacy, Prof. M S Ganachari, President, IPA local branch. University of Maryland officials.

“The foundation of what we do at the School is based on our mission to lead pharmacy education, scientific discovery, patient care, and community engagement in the state of Maryland and beyond,” she said. “The annual State of the School of Pharmacy Address provides an introspective opportunity to examine our endeavors, opportunities, and challenges and to focus our journey as we go forward.” Read more…

The Goddard School, a chain that specializes in early-childhood development, is expanding its presence in Clark County with construction of a $3 million school set to break ground Tuesday in the Salmon Creek area.

The Pharmacy Council of India has cracked the whip on seven pharmacy colleges in the state for admitting more students than permitted. With this, the one-upmanship between the All India Council for Technical Education and PCI over control of pharmacy colleges has taken a new turn.

The PCI has barred admissions to these colleges from the ensuing academic year 2012-13. The PCI has informed the state government that these colleges have violated the Education Regulation Act, 1999, by admitting more students than they were permitted and has asked the government to initiate action against them. It also asked the government not to include these colleges in Eamcet counselling next year. Norton Healthcare Inc.    has agreed to invest $600,000 to extend its pharmacy education initiative with the University of Kentucky for three more years.

The Clinical Education Center at Norton Hospital’s downtown campus began in 2006. It has resulted in 86 UK pharmacy students completing their education in Louisville, with more than 50 of them beginning their careers here.

That’s proof the initiative has succeeded, said Paul Allen, Norton’s associate vice president of pharmacy services. ASCP Research and Education Foundation
